What to expect in a body rub? ›

During your massage, your therapist will typically begin by massaging your back and shoulders; for this, you'll need to be laying down comfortably on your stomach. Then, the therapist will massage your legs and feet, (and your glutes if this has been agreed to) before proceeding to massage the arms.

Best Way to Give a Full Body Massage

Ask your client to lie down on their stomach and start massaging their neck and shoulders. Use your hands to knead their muscles and release any tension. Move onto their back, arms, legs, and feet, before finishing off with a gentle head massage.

It is important to note that there has been a controversial discussion on whether full body massage does involve touching of the genitals. The laid down code of conduct among practitioners prohibits them from touching the genitalia among both women and men, and breasts among women.

For example, if you're getting a Swedish massage, you will usually be asked to remove most of your clothing. This allows the massage therapist to use long, gliding strokes to reduce muscle tension and improve circulation. For a fast, seated-at-desk massage, however, you don't need to take off any clothing.

They'll massage your shoulders and neck, your arms and hands, and the front of your legs. They may end with a face and scalp massage, or even an Indian head massage depending on the full body massage you have booked.

Though the name suggests you'll need to go down to your underwear like a Swedish or spa massage, that isn't the case. Many people wear loose-fitting clothes while getting a deep tissue massage, and that's completely okay. Do what's comfortable for you and check with the specialist to wear a massage.

When massage is applied to the body it increases the blood supply travelling around your body, in particular to the area being treated. This in turn promotes an exchange of substances between the cells, which helps to bring fresh nutrients into cells and remove waste, keeping your body healthy and ready for action.
